On September 26, 1983, Deputy Jeffrey C. Brown succumbed to injuries sustained 11 months earlier when he was assaulted by a member of an extremist religious organization in Miracle Valley October 23, 1982.
A large group of deputies were attempting to arrest several of the church members when they were attacked by a mob of extremists with firearms, rocks, rakes and metal pipes. Deputy Brown was struck in the chest with a five-foot long metal pipe, causing him to suffer a bruised heart.
The following July, Deputy Brown was operated on to remove a blood clot from his heart. Two months later he suffered an aneurysm and died as a result of the clash in Miracle Valley
Deputy Brown was survived by his parents and two sisters.
The Huachuca Lodge of the Arizona Fraternal Order of Police has dedicated countless hours in an attempt to memorialize Jeff’s sacrifice to our community by dedicating a bronze plaque in his honor in front of the Sierra Vista Sub-Station of the Sheriff’s Department located at 100 Colonia Salud.
The dedication will take place on December 8, 2011 beginning at 10 AM. The public is invited and members of the FOP are encouraged to attend and show support for Jeff’s remaining family and friends.
